The Michael Jackson concert rehearsal documentary This Is It is approaching the end of its theatrical run, but fans will only have to wait two months to bring the King of Pop to their home theater — the film’s DVD and Blu-ray will be released on January 26th, 2010. The bonuses on the This Is It DVD include an hour of additional footage not seen in theaters, two making-of documentaries and featurettes about the costuming, dancer auditions and memories of Jackson, Variety reports. And for those who wanted to give the gift of This Is It this holiday season, there’s also good news: Pre-orders for the DVD and Blu-ray will begin December 24th.

Read our opening night review of This Is It.

As Rolling Stone previously reported, This Is It’s run in multiplexes was extended after theater owners afraid that a quick DVD release would diminish ticket sales put pressure on Sony to delay the DVD. The film has grossed around $70 million domestically and over $200 million worldwide. Instead of tying in the DVD release to the big Christmas sales, Sony will instead hitch This Is It to the surge of sales that follows the Grammy Awards, which will be broadcast five days after the disc hits stores, on January 31st, Variety reports.

Look back at Michael Jackson’s most memorable moments.

In case you needed more of a reason to put a Blu-ray player on your gift list this holiday season, the This Is It Blu-ray will house another 30 minutes of footage not available on the standard DVD, plus the “Smooth Criminal” vignette that was filmed for Jackson’s planned London O2 concerts. Portions of the “Smooth Criminal” video, which featured old school gangster clips of Humphrey Bogart and other black-and-white criminals, were shown in This Is It.

As Rolling Stone reported, MTV locked up the rights for the television broadcast of This Is It starting in 2011.

Guns n’ RosesChinese Democracy world tour continues to take shape as Axl Rose’s long-dormant official Website was updated this weekend to reveal that Gn’R will embark of a trek of South America from March 10th to April 10th, 2010. As Rolling Stone previously reported, Gn’R will finally set out on tour to promote their year-old Chinese Democracy with a four-date tour of Southeast Asia that kicks off just 12 days from now, December 11th, in Taipei, Taiwan.

Look back at classic shots of Gn’R, onstage and off.

No official dates for the South American tour have been revealed yet, but the MyGNR and Here Today Gone to Hell forums have collected a bunch of Ticketmaster and promoter information that lays the groundwork for the potential tour. As it stands now, Guns n’ Roses are expected to perform four shows in four different cities in Brazil, two concerts at Buenos Aires, Argentina’s Estádio Monumental de Nunez and one gig apiece in Peru, Chile and Venezuela. When the Chinese Democracy world tour officially comes to South America, it’ll be Guns n’ Roses’ first concert on the continent since the Rock in Rio show in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on January 15th, 2001.

Michael Jackson Doc DVD Due In January

Author: webc

“This Is It,” the Michael Jackson concert film, will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on Jan. 26, 2010, distributor Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is expected to announce today (Monday, Nov. 30).

It’s Spankin’ New Music Week, and today’s the love is all Shakira’s. Check out this gorgeous live performance of “Gypsy,” off of Shakira’s brand-new album, She Wolf.

Shot during Shakira’s recent appearance on MTV’s It’s On With Alexa Chung, this exclusive performance of “Gypsy” sets aside Shakira’s “She Wolf”/ “Did It Again” sex goddess side and focuses on Shakira as living-room-floor storyteller and musician, complete with Shakira herself on harmonica, flanked by bongos and a banjo.

Usually when we post a video of Shakira these days, it involves the Colombian singer in a state of choreographed writhing, be it in her “She Wolf” video, or her “Did It Again” video. So it’s nice to see a video with just some writhing-free chatting going on, for once, because it’s easier to concentrate, you see…

As part of Spankin’ New Music Week, we sat down with Shakira for a very informative episode of “The 5,”  which finds her going into great depth on the themes surrounding her just-released album, She Wolf.

Shakira talks about the album as an examination of various modes of female identity. She also gives some insight into the special recipe she follows to blend together all the disparate forms of music that find their way on to the album (from Jamaican dancehall to electronic to the music of her native Colombia), as well as the special roster of artists she collaborated with, including Wyclef “Hips Don’t Lie” Jean and Lil’ Wayne.

+ Watch Shakira’s brand-new Buzzworthy interview now.

I’ve got good news and bad news. Bad news first: these are the last of Tokio Hotel’s MTV Buzzworthy Blog fan interviews. The good news? You get TWO new videos!

In the first (of the last… for now!) Tokio Hotel Buzzworthy Blog fan Q&A videos, Tokio Hotel discusses their lack of enthusiasm for YouTube as well as their disinterest in re-watching Tokio Hotel performances. Plus, to coincide with Adam Lambert’s Bill Kaulitz crush, the guys talk about Tokio Hotel’s fan boys.

And, in this last Tokio Hotel Buzzworthy Blog fan Q&A, Tom talks about his blog, Bill talks about his acting aspirations — he’d love to do Twilight, but a vampire or a junkie will do too — hence my suggestion that Bill Kaulitz star in a remake of Christiane F. – Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (again, sorry for my atrocious German!) Tom shouts out the movies he’d like to act in, and Bill summarizes the early days before Tokio Hotel: “I can’t remember my life before Tokio Hotel.”

Jamie Tworkowski was a music-loving surf kid with a winning smile when he stumbled into the salvation business — he tried to help an addicted, suicidal teen, blogged about the experience and whipped up a batch of T-shirts featuring a phrase he’d penned (”To Write Love on Her Arms”). An old pal, Switchfoot singer Jon Foreman, wore one of the tees at a concert and before he knew it, Tworkowski was the leader of a teen-angst movement on MySpace, where his organization TWLOHA, has the largest audience of any nonprofit.

The Dirty Projects/Roots musical love affair continued today (Nov. 25) on the set of “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” as two members of the Brooklyn-based group joined the Roots to back Mos Def and Talib Kweli on their song “History.”
