Paramore Live Video Q&A 4/29 at 4 pm EST

Author: webc

Platinum pop-punk quintet Paramore took your tweeted questions during our live video interview April 29 at 4pm EST. Thanks for watching. Don’t miss the archived video to catch it all over again.

The legendary, inimitable Gorillaz will be performing live at London’s Roundhouse on Friday, April 30, and MTV.com is giving you a front-row seat to the sold-out show.

Watch Gorillaz’s cyborg-enhanced live stream of its Roundhouse performance, featuring tracks from the new album, Plastic Beach, with special guests, stunning visual effects and a touch of the unexpected, right here on the MTV Buzzworthy Blog on Friday, April 30 at 5 p.m. ET.

Here’s a little Gorillaz history for the uninitiated. Since Demon Days, a lot’s changed for Gorillaz. There’s been much madness, mayhem, kidnappings, explosions and evil Svengali Murdoc Niccals has taken over the fantastical floating island of garbage known as Plastic Beach.

With airborne pirates hot on his heels and moaning whales surrounding Plastic Beach, Murdoc Niccals clearly has just one choice: Plan a massive party, and let the new Gorillaz album loose upon London and the world. All you have to do is watch the cyborgian experience unfurl.

Come back to the MTV Buzzworthy Blog on Friday, April 30 at 5 p.m. ET to watch Gorillaz live from London. And then watch an on-demand performance after the show.

+ Plus: Watch Gorillaz’s “Stilo” video.

The folks at MTV Iggy had the fine idea to get the wonderful indie rock band Surfer Blood to play its jam “Floating Vibes” at the Lower East Side club The Delancey and capture the whole thing on camera.

Surfer Blood’s breakout debut album, Astro Coast, is full of jangly, slightly askew pop-rock gems that recall the best moments of classic indie bands like Pavement, while tipping its musical cap to classic rock stalwarts such as Cheap Trick. I know I’ve mentioned Cheap Trick a lot recently, but that’s because Cheap Trick is awesome.

Anyway! Surfer Blood ran through “Floating Vibes” as well as “Take It Easy,” and its single “Swim (To Reach The End).” Check out the videos below. You can check out the MTV Iggy blog post about the filming of the live session right here. Astro Coast is out now.

So Christina Aguilera’s new video for “Not Myself Tonight” drops tomorrow. It’s the first single from her highly anticipated, long-awaited new album, Bionic. To stir up some interest and create some buzz, Xtina has been releasing some toooootally subtle and demure images from the Hype Williams-directed video via her website.

Let’s take a look at some of Christina’s “Not Myself Tonight” video stills and derive whatever meaning we can.

Cynics might suggest that the ribald, girl-on-girl action above is an homage or nod to the recent uptick in lady love à la Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s “Telephone” video. But knowing what we know about how Xtina feels about Gaga (let’s just say she ain’t on her Christmas card list), we think the safer bet is that this a portrait of a working mother, tired after a long day on the set of a video, finding the first place she can to take a load off.

Yes, the above pic owes a certain amount of debt to Madonna, circa Blond Ambition. But hey, you’re trapped inside with the kid for a couple of years, watching “The View,” reading “The Secret” or whatever and trying not to gouge your eyes out on the mommy boards. After a while you gotta go out and let your hair down with the girls. Or a bunch of dudes.

Yes, it’s more Madonna worship. This time, the “Human Nature” era.

But, damn! Can’t a lady be thirsty! Lotta hot lights on the video set! Sometimes Xtina needs a beverage!

The main character in Hotspur’s new video for “Heads/Tails” really gets a raw deal. Forget a “Dear John” letter — this dude gets a postcard!

The action begins in this Josh Eisenberg-directed clip with a lady slipping off in the morning light while her apparently-now-ex boyfriend sleeps. Upon awakening, he finds her gone with only the fact that his hair is perfectly matted in a just-out-of-bed fashion to console him.

The piano ballad, taken from Hotspur’s 2009 You Should Know Better By Now album, concerns itself with the role chance plays in relationships (hence, heads or tails). If you want to see what simple twist of fate awaits the couple in the video, all you have to do is click play.

Check out “Heads/Tails” below.

We’ve been spending a lot of quality time with Jared Leto and 30 Seconds To Mars recently, giving you an up close, behind-the-scenes look at the band as it tours the world in support of the album This Is War. Up until now, Buzzworthy’s gotten some incredible tour diaries (from London to Vegas to the Midwest) from Jared Leto, complete with photos taken by the man himself. We’ve even gotten some awesome live video 30 Seconds To Mars clips.

And today we have brand-new 30 Seconds With 30 Seconds To Mars video footage. It’s a look backstage and on the tour bus with the band. See what it’s like when everyone has left the arena and 30STM is loading out and loading on to their (blacklit!) bus. It’s a cool look at life on the road with a band, going from a massive arena to a teeny tiny bus bunk.

Check out the video below. This Is War is out now.

Ludacris may encourage having girls in different area codes, but the rapper isn’t one to shy away from promoting safe sex as well.

Trey Songz is no stranger to memorable moments on stage. From his surprising smooch with Toni Braxton at the Soul Train Awards to his recent turn as the latest “MTV Unplugged” performer, the Virgina native seizes opportunity more than The Situation during last call.

MTV’s Jayson Rodriguez sat down with Trey Songz and had the “Panty Dropper” and MTV PUSH artist recount some of his most memorable moments on stage.

+ Trey Songz, on his his first solo show after touring with Jay-Z as a part of The BP3 Tour.

“That night, that was at the end of the show, and I was looking to walk off stage and get things together. But then I see my manager on stage, and I’m like, What the hell is going on? ‘Cause I saw him on stage like two songs before that and I thought somebody f***ed up or something, because he didn’t come on the stage. So when he came out with Michael Kyser, an executive at the label, and they presented me with the plaque (his album “Ready” was certified Gold), it was a great moment. After the tour, it’s my show, I been on support with Jay-Z for a month before that, and this was my first sold-out show after that, in New York City. Being presented with the plaque and to be able to see the Vibe magazine cover story for the first time, it was a moment. And I got to share with with my fans, and that’s what I cared most about.”

+ Trey Songz, on sharing the stage with Stevie Wonder at the 2010 BET Honors:

“Throughout my time performing I’ve had a million great moments. Kissing Toni Braxton at the Soul Train Awards was one of them. But performing with Stevie Wonder at the BET Honors, and he actually performed a piece of “I Invented Sex” — which is my song — to have an icon like Stevie Wonder performing my record and to be up there with him, when he was making music before I was born! So without him there’s no possible way I could have been here, or a lot of artists, for that matter.”

+ Trey Songz, on sharing the stage with Drake following his knee surgery:

“I remember when Drake came back performing for the first time after having surgery, and he had a cane, and it was me, him and Lil Wayne on stage. He was back in Toronto. I could go on for days about great times on stage, great moments, and they continue to happen. ‘Cause in the end, that’s what it’s about, being remembered for those great moments. It’s like the first time you saw Michael Jackson doing the Moonwalk. You never forget that.”

+ Plus: Watch Trey Songz’s MTV on-air videos to see why Trey’s a ladies’ man, how he stays focused and how he prepared for his “MTV Unplugged” performance.

Frank And Derol Explain Their Set List

Author: webc

(Credit: Frank and Derol’s MySpace)

For a band, picking out which songs to play for a live show is no easy task. Luckily, for indie-pop upstarts Frank And Derol — singer/keyboardist Cody Caraco and singer/guitarist Brandi Cyrus – they’ve got a couple experienced musicians to help out.

After all, what good is being related to Trace, Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus if you can’t get insider tips on crafting the perfect set list?

Check out the video below for a closer look at how Frank and Derol determine what goes into their set list.

Sure, I love a good celebrity train wreck story just as much as the next girl, but I have to admit that it really warms my cold, black heart when I read about celebs making a difference. It’s great when people use their fame for a good cause — instead of just scoring free stuff at Kitson.

However, you don’t have to be famous to be philanthropic. If you’re looking to give back, any of the celeb-endorsed charities below would love to have you! (Exits soapbox … )

1.) INVISIBLE CHILDREN: Invisible Children was started to educate the world about the war in Uganda where children are abducted and forced to join, fight and possibly die in the Lord’s Resistance Army. What originally started with a documentary (also titled “Invisible Children”), telling the story of this horrific genocide, has launched a worldwide movement that has made a huge difference in attempting to end the turmoil in East Africa.

2.) TO WRITE LOVE ON HER ARMS: Started by Jamie Tworkowski in 2006, To Write Love On Her Arms is a nonprofit that aims to provide hope and support for those participating in self-injury and dealing with depression, addiction and thoughts of suicide. Tworkowski even won the mtvU Good Woodie Award in 2009 for his work with the organization. Watch a behind-the-scenes clip about his nomination in the video below.

3.) SHIRTS FOR A CURE: When rock photographer Mark Beemer’s wife passed away from breast cancer, he decided to start the Syrentha J. Savio Endowment and Shirts For A Cure, an organization that offers financial aid to underprivileged women fighting breast cancer. Bands donate exclusive shirt designs, and profits from the sale of these limited-edition tees go toward providing breast cancer medicine and therapy for those in need.

4.) TAKE THE WALK: Something as simple as a pair of shoes can change someone’s life. It’s that thought that inspired the Hanson brothers to team up with TOMS shoes and start their Take The Walk campaign, which encourages young people all over the world to participate in barefoot walks that promote the end of poverty and AIDS in Africa. With the help of fans and volunteers, Hanson have already circled the world once and have no intention of stopping there. To take the first step and learn more about the organization, watch the short documentary below.

5.) THE RICHIE-MADDEN CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION: When Joel Madden and Nicole Richie aren’t busy making babies, they’re busy helping them. The couple started the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation as a way to provide opportunities to children all over the world, as well as partner with existing organizations making a difference both locally and globally.

You thought Ciara’s new video, “Ride” (watch it below) was just a look at Ciara being bonkers hot while smacking on some gum and wearing a fur coat? Most definitely not! “Ride,” featuring Ludacris, is actually Ciara’s way of showing you how to get her spectacularly fit body. Here’s how:

ABDOMINAL CRUNCHES: Start slow and manageable, with 15 reps of 500. Work your way up to 20 reps of 600 each. Repeat. Rest ONLY when necessary.

PUSH-UPS: Ciara seems to have done a LOT of these. And you should, too! But note: Proper push-up position entails employing the prone position, with both legs together. Only the adventurous should experiment with Ciara’s legs-wide-open approach.

BULL RIDING: It may not look like an obvious way to get in shape, but bull riding is a great quad workout. But again, unless you’re Ciara, you should really hang on tight. With both hands.

LOWER BACK STRETCHES: After bull riding, it’s crucial to stretch out the lower back, as Ciara demonstrates.

DEEP KNEE BENDS: Never attempt deep knee bends unsupervised. Have a fitness professional, like Ludacris, monitor your performance. Enjoy, and be safe!

BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge is a great recurring radio program where musicians come and play an intimate, controlled setting. Often, the invited artists are encouraged to perform covers, sometimes of songs that you’d never expect.

Earlier this year the New Jersey band Gaslight Anthem covered Kelly Clarkson’s “I Do Not Hook Up,” giving the song the somber acoustic treatment. And now we have the off-the-wall pop act Marina And The Diamonds giving their take on the frat-rock anthem, “Starstrukk,” by 3Oh!3 and Katy Perry.

To say that Marina’s version of the song is quite different from the original is quite the understatement. The Welsh singer gives the song an ethereal feeling, with her evocative vocals riding over a piano accompaniment. And her rendering of lyrics about daisy dukes and double-D’s is almost … haunting.
