Next week when hundreds of bands head to Texas for the annual South By Southwest Music Festival, Rolling Stone will be on the ground in Austin bringing you incredible photos, interviews, our first-ever SXSW showcases and a special treat: 100 tweeted show reviews @RollingStone by contributor Christopher R. Weingarten, who recently completed his 1000TimesYes project — 1,000 140-character album reviews in a year.

On Thursday, March 18th, RS will feature Dawes, the Whigs, the Low Anthem, Titus Andronicus, Free Energy and Deer Tick at the Palm Door. The following night, Band of Skulls, Jimmie Dale and Colin Gilmore, Court Yard Hounds, John Doe, Rye Rye and Nneka will take the stage at the same venue.

We’ll be charting all the festival’s action with one goal: to get a feel for the biggest sets, the smallest parties, the guerilla shows on restaurant patios, the formidable lineups of metal and hip-hop. “By attending 100 shows, big and small, I’m hoping to capture the breadth and depth of Austin and the music industry circa 2010 ̬ all in tweet-sized gulps,” Weingarten says. As for how he’ll survive, Weingarten has a plan. “I figure my tee-totaling ways might put me at an advantage, providing me with the boundless energy I will need. However I do expect my undying love of Salt Lick BBQ and weakness for sweet tea to severely hinder my movements. But I feel truly blessed that RollingStone.com has asked me to do this, since there will be nothing to separate me or distract from experiencing music. It should be every critic’s duty and passion to experience as much music as humanly possible.”

We’ll be posting daily recaps of Weingarten’s Twitter coverage here on Rock Daily, along with video documenting his journeys and recaps of the festival’s other major events. Get ready for the action by looking back at photos from SXSW ‘09 and entering our sweepstakes to win a trip to the fest to check out Stone Temple Pilots.

On Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden, Brooklyn rapper Jay-Z reminded fans why his hometown is the “concrete jungle where dreams are made of.”

Alicia Keys will join Mary J. Blige as a headliner of the 16th annual Essence Music Festival, to be held July 2-4, in New Orleans.

Another New York Fashion Week comes to a close and, as usual, I’m left with a laundry list of stylish swag to snag next season. The first item I’d like to throw into my virtual shopping cart is this gorgeous Rebecca Minkoff black, quilted satchel with fringed zipper-pull tassel.

The above bag is from the designer’s Fall 2010 collection and has yet to be listed on Minkoff’s website. Tears. However, the classic Morning After Bag, which doesn’t boast all the bedazzled detailing but is currently in stock, ranks a close second on my wish list. The MAB sells for $595.

Where’s a hammer so I can break open my piggy bank?

My Morning Jacket, Massive Attack, Vampire Weekend and MGMT are among the dozens of bands that will play the 2010 Sasquatch Music Festival, the annual Memorial Day weekend event at The Gorge near Seattle, Wash.

Mark your calendars, and get READY, because the 2010 MTV VMAs are SET for Sunday, September 12, live from Los Angeles. That’s right. Everyone knows New York was so 2009. Which is why we’re packing up our laptops, live camera thingies that help broadcast stuff live, our Moonmen, and our favorite celebrities, ditching Times Square (old news!), and going someplace sunny for the 27th VMAs in Los Angeles.

Obviously anything could happen — Someone could end up covered in blood! or even GET INTERRUPTED! Hugely famous people could meet, fall in love and GET MARRIED (right Katy and Russell?), all of *NSYNC could rise from the dust and perform “Bye Bye Bye” (#veryunlikely)… YOU NEVER KNOW! And seeing how I snuck backstage at Radio City Music Hall into a tiny, scary prop closet to take the above photo of a Moonman at 2009 VMAs, I’ll be bringing you tons of Buzzworthy insider access to the 2010 VMAs. So stay tuned…

+ Relive the 2009 MTV VMAs and get secrets of the 2009 VMAs.

+ Brush up on your VMA history!

Billboard sources have confirmed that the festival headliners will include Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews Band and Kings of Leon.
