Last year Canadian folk-rock duo Tegan & Sara (and their art designer Emy Storey) teamed up with the footwear brand Macbeth to design their own sneakers. They even made a neat little video about the endeavor.

These fine-looking hi-tops would be a great find no matter what. But now you have all the more incentive to seek them out, as Tegan & Sara have taken the time out to personally customize two pairs of Macbeths and put them up for auction on the awesome Web site Crafts For A Cause. It’s a charity Web site full of incredible donated memorabilia up for auction with all the proceeds going to Artists For Peace And Justice’s efforts to help Haiti.

Other celeb goods up for auction: a microphone used by Christina Aguilera (!), the chance to have a song produced by Mark Ronson (!!), and decorated and signed robot costumes courtesy of Daft Punk (!!!).

To bid on the Tegan & Sara shoes (or ROBOTS!), head over to Crafts For A Cause or Bidding For Good. If we see you walking down the street dressed like a Daft Punk robot, we’ll know you’ve done a very good deed!

As a treat, let’s all watch the Tegan & Sara video for “Alligator.” Even if they aren’t rocking Macbeths in it, they still have awesome dance moves.

Here we have the “We Are The World: 25 Years For Haiti” video, directed by Academy Award winning writer/director Paul Haggis (Crash). Featuring a cast of countless actors, singers and entertainers, released for the sole purpose of benefiting the earthquake-ravaged nation of Haiti.

There’s a lot to take note of here. So let’s just point out:

+ Vocalists like Jennifer Hudson, Tony Bennett and Josh Groban working hand in hand with younger pop stars like Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers.

+ A touching “duet” on the first chorus between Janet Jackson and her late brother Michael.

+ The increasingly emotional vocal relay between Pink, a sample of Michael Jackson’s vocals from the original “We Are The World,” Usher and Celine Dion.

+ Haggis’ cutting between in-studio footage and scenes from on the ground, in Haiti.

+ Lil’ Wayne’s auto-tuned Bob Dylan impersonation over Carlos Santana’s guitar solo.

And a ton more..

Check out the video below and be sure to peep all the amazing footage and interviews captured by MTV at the recording session. You can go to iTunes to download the song, with proceeds going to the We Are The World Foundation.

“Hope For Haiti Now” (MTV Networks), the all-star soundtrack from MTV’s recent telethon for victims of the Haiti earthquake, debuted at the top of the U.K. compilations chart.

Total iTunes downloads of the “Hope For Haiti Now” special, including both full album sales and individual tracks, have now topped $3 million, with all proceeds benefiting Haiti relief funds. As Rolling Stone previously reported, Hope For Haiti also topped this week’s Billboard 200 chart with 170,000 digital copies sold, marking the first time in chart history that a digital-only album debuted at Number One on the charts. iTunes’ $3 million haul accounts for nearly all digital sales of the project.

Check out photos of Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and more Hope for Haiti Now performers.

In a statement, iTunes proclaims that Hope For Haiti Now was the service’s biggest one-day album pre-order in history, and that Hope For Haiti was the first special to lock up the Number One spot on their album, song and TV chart. At press time, the entire album remains Number One on iTunes Album chart, though Justin Timberlake & Matt Morris’ cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” has been bumped off the Top Songs chart after leaping to the top spot earlier this week.

Hope For Haiti Now also featured unique and intimate performances by Madonna, Beyonce with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Dave Matthews and the “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)” collaboration between Jay-Z, Rihanna and U2’s Bono and the Edge. The telethon helped raise over $61 million for Haiti relief.

‘Hope For Haiti’ Will Top Billboard 200

Author: webc

As forecasted last Friday, the “Hope For Haiti Now” benefit album will debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart that will be issued on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

This past Friday night, MTV’s Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit For Earthquake Relief helped raise over $58 million dollars for the people of Haiti, and the star-studded event sent a new record for donations made by the general public during a disaster-relief telethon, and the “Hope for Haiti Now” album became the biggest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history.

The evening wasn’t about promoting vanity projects, red carpet fashions, or Hollywood heartthrobs. It was about putting aside the fact that our country is in need and giving to those whose need is so great that ours pales in comparison.

And the Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit For Earthquake Relief was about the power of music — from Justin Timberlake’s cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” to Stevie Wonder’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” to Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z and Rihanna’s brand-new song, “Stranded — Haiti Mon Amour,” and, of course, Wyclef Jean’s “Rivers of Babylon”/”Yele” medley — to unite and bring us hope.

Watch all of the Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit For Earthquake Relief performances below. Plus, pre-order the Hope for Haiti Now full-performance album for just $7.99 on iTunes. And please, donate.

Taylor Swift, “Breathless”

Christina Aguilera, “Lift Me Up”

+ Watch more performances after the jump.

Sting, “Driven To Tears”

Beyonce, “Halo”

Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban & Kid Rock, “Lean On Me”

Madonna, “Like A Prayer”

Justin Timberlake & Matt Morris, “Hallelujah”

Jennifer Hudson, “Let It Be”

Emeline Michel, “Many Rivers To Cross”

Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z, Rihanna, “Stranded — Haiti Mon Amour”

Dave Matthews & Neil Young, “Alone And Forsaken”

Wyclef Jean, “Rivers Of Babylon”/ “Yele”

One of the questions facing musicians performing at MTV’s Hope For Haiti Now benefit last Friday was what to play. Some chose to perform covers, with Jennifer Hudson deftly handling “Let It Be” by The Beatles and Justin Timberlake giving a close reading of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. Others chose to dip into their own catalogs to find an appropriate piece.

For her performance, Madonna chose her stirring gospel-pop anthem, “Like A Prayer.” New York Times pop critic Jon Caramanica might have summed the moment up best: “For 20 years, that song has been the symbol of one of the most tumultuous and controversial periods in Madonna’s life. But for five minutes tonight, it was pure, put in service of something bigger than the singer.”

Rendered in an appropriately minimal fashion, with just an acoustic guitar and the backing of a fantastic choir, Madonna gave a heartfelt, cathartic performance of one of her greatest singles. Relive it in the video below. And for old time’s sake, check out the original “Like A Prayer” video as well.

Make sure you watch all of the performances from the Hope For Haiti Now benefit here. Also, pre-order the Hope for Haiti Now full-performance album for just $7.99 on iTunes. And please, donate.

MTV’s Hope For Haiti Now benefit sent out a beacon of light, hope, and help to the people of Haiti. And one of the brightest lights of the star-crossed night was Taylor Swift, who performed a stripped-down, slowed-down, breathy version of Better Than Ezra’s “Breathless,” set to strings, live from Los Angeles.

Watch Taylor Swift’s performance of “Breathless” at MTV’s Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit For Earthquake Relief.

And if you haven’t yet, watch all of the performances from the Hope For Haiti Now benefit here. Also, pre-order the Hope for Haiti Now full-performance album for just $7.99 on iTunes. And please, donate.

As we prepare to live blog Hope for Haiti, the mega-telethon featuring performances by Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Jay-Z with U2 and dozen more stars, Rolling Stone hopes you pause to look through Jeff Antebi’s photographs from Haiti. The music industry vet explains how he went from shepherding Danger Mouse’s career to documenting current events after the jump.

Images From Haiti: Photos By Music Biz Vet Jeff Antebi

“I founded Waxploitation with the goal of discovering and creating unique music projects. The last three artists I developed were Danger Mouse, Gnarls Barkley and Broken Bells. Last year though, I started to feel drawn to other passions and decided to take a sabbatical from the music industry. This led me to a sort of blend between art photography and war photography. I went to fairly dangerous places like Afghanistan, Haiti and Juarez with the goal of doing artistic photography in the midst of the chaos. Haiti was the first place I visited, and while poverty was horrific in places like Cite Soleil, but the people, especially the kids, had an unbelievable sense of humor.

Even though I was there for limited amounts of time, I took hundreds of photographs of people. When the earthquake struck and killed 200,000 people in almost an instant, I could recall those people as easily as I could my family. Now they feel like friends quite possibly dead or severely injured. But I don’t know their names or anything tangible about their identities I’ll never have the ability to know if they survived. My ‘Haiti’ folder feels like a cemetery.”

Tonight, dozens of big-name stars from Springsteen to Madonna are joining forces to help raise money for relief work in Haiti. Rolling Stone will be following all the musical action as it happens right here. Watch some of the best performances, and in addition, take an opportunity to flip through music biz vet Jeff Antebi’s photos from Haiti and our other coverage on the industry’s response to the horrific earthquake:

Hope for Haiti Now: Bruce, Madonna, Jay-Z and More Photos From the Telethon

Inside the Recording of Bono and Jay-Z’s Haiti Single “Stranded”

Dave Matthews Band, Lady Gaga and More Stars Rock to Aid Haiti

8:00 p.m.: Alicia Keys opens the telecast alone at a grand piano singing “Prelude to a Kiss” from As I Am.

8:04 p.m.: George Clooney, the telethon’s organizer, explains why this benefit is so important while the camera pans past the bank of all-star phone operations.

8:07 p.m.: All four members of Coldplay are strumming away to a rendition of “A Message” live in London.

8:13 p.m.: “A small prayer for Haiti,” says Bruce Springsteen before starting an acoustic version of “We Shall Overcome.”

8:16 p.m.: We spy Ringo Starr in the phone bank!

8:20 p.m.: Stevie Wonder is at the piano performing an excellent medley of “A Time to Love” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” with a choir.

8:24 p.m.: Wyclef Jean mournfully describes the scene he encountered in his homeland in the days following the earthquake.

8:25 p.m.: Shakira offers a stirring, stripped-down version of the Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand By You” backed by the Roots.

8:34 p.m.: John Legend takes the piano for traditional “Motherless Child,” and really digs into the bridge.

8:39 p.m.: Mary J. Blige and her high hair are putting a soulful spin on “Hard Times Come Again No More,” a 19th century song that’s been covered by Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan.

8:44 p.m.: Another pan of the star-bank reveals LL Cool J, Randy Jackson and Common manning the phones.

8:47 p.m.: Taylor Swift (safe from Kanye West, who will not be appearing on the telethon) gently strums “Breathless” by Better Than Ezra.

8:53 p.m.: There’s no shortage of melisma during Christina Aguilera’s performance — the debut of a new song that features the lyrics “If you lift me up.”

9:01 p.m.: A very buff-looking Sting picks up an acoustic guitar for a jaunty, jazzy rendition of his classic “Driven to Tears,” backed by the Roots, who seem to be the house band in this New York studio (a role they’re clearly comfortable with thanks in part to their day job on Jimmy Fallon’s show).

9:06 p.m.: Beyoncé teams up with Chris Martin (on piano) for a powerful version of her I Am … Sasha Fierce ballad “Halo,” changing the lyric to “Haiti I can see your halo” live from London.

9:13 p.m.: Sheryl Crow is flanked by Kid Rock and Keith Urban for an acoustic “Lean on Me.” All the artists have really been staying on message with their selections tonight.

9:21 p.m.: Madonna, dressed in a tight black leather jacket, is leading a choir in an emotional acoustic version of “Like a Prayer” from the New York studio. Paring the song down brings out its defiantly uplifting core.

9:30 p.m.: Justin Timberlake has settled in at the piano for a slow, shuffling rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” (a song quite appropriate for the occasion, though Cohen has called for a brief pause in covers of his tune). He’s accompanied by Matt Morris, who Timberlake signed to his own label.

9:34 p.m.: Taylor Swift takes a phone call!

9:36 p.m.: Ringo Starr is answering phones, and now the Beatles are in the building: Jennifer Hudson is beautifully embellishing “Let It Be” (backed by the Roots). Is this the right pick, or would you rather have heard “Hey Jude” or “All You Need Is Love”? “With a Little Help From My Friends” (with Ringo)?

9:42 p.m.: Haitian artist Emeline Michel has taken the stage, putting a quite unique spin on Jimmy Cliff’s “Many Rivers to Cross” (one of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time).

9:48 p.m.: The biggest collaboration of them all has arrived: Jay-Z, Rihanna, Bono and the Edge singing the Swizz Beatz-produced “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour).” For the story behind the track, click here. Is it us, or is the mix slightly off? Getting lots of Rihanna, just a bit of Bono.

9:51 p.m.: Stevie Wonder takes a call! “A whole lot of littles make a whole lot of lots,” he tells his caller.

9:53 p.m.: Dave Matthews and Neil Young’s acoustic selection is perhaps the most mournful track of the night, Hank Williams’ “Alone and Forsaken.”

9:58 p.m.: Yéle Haiti founder Wyclef Jean brightens the mood a bit with “Rivers of Babylon,” another track from the soundtrack to The Harder They Come (one of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time). “Let’s rebuild Haiti, man,” he yells as the song jumps into a funky breakdown and he shouts out Anderson Cooper.

Hope for Haiti Now: check out photos from the all-star telethon.

And that’s the end of a very emotional two hours of live television. The songs performed on the telethon will be available for sale via iTunes as a full album ($7.99), a two-hour video of the telecast ($1.99), and individual tracks (99 cents; available in several days). Amazon’s MP3 store and Rhapsody will also be selling the performances in the coming days; all three services will be donating the profits to Haiti relief.
